Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Welcome to Colombia
Arrival at the airport of Bogota, the Andean capital, and transport to your hotel.

Day 2
Culinary experience and bicycle tour
After breakfast, we head to the picturesque Paloquemao Market, where we discover the most representative products of Colombian gastronomy. We then continue to Bolívar Square and to the restaurant of the Escuela Taller Foundation, where we take part in a short culinary workshop focused on amasijos and arepas, two emblematic specialties of Colombian tradition.
In the afternoon, we explore downtown Bogotá in an original and off-the-beaten-path way. A bicycle tour takes us through the city’s most authentic neighborhoods. On Sundays, cycling is an essential part of life for the capital’s residents.

Day 3
La Macarena – Caño cristales
Arrival at the village of La Macarena. First, you will attend a talk about environmental practices to apply to the site of Caño Cristales. Settle into your hotel and have lunch in La Macarena before leaving the village for a 20-minute boat trip on the Guayabero river. Enjoy the landscape and local flora and fauna (birds, turtles, and other animals of the region). Then, you will do a little walk to discover specific sites such as Cristalitos or others. Return to La Macarena around 3:30 p.m. and have the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 4
Caño cristales
Breakfast and early departure to the Caño Cristales park. Transportation by motorboat on the Guayabero river and by land, from the disembarkation point to the area of Caño Cristales. Start the ecological hike selected for you by the Natural Park or Coormacarena, the organization in charge of the park. Lunch in Caño Cristales before going back to the village of La Macarena. Then, you will enjoy an integration evening including a show, folkloric music and dance, and local cuisine.

Day 5
Caño cristales
The itinerary may be modified according to flight schedules. Breakfast and early departure to the Caño Cristales park. Transportation by motorboat on the Guayabero river and by land, from the disembarkation point to the area of Caño Cristales. Start of the ecological hike selected for you by the Natural Park or Coormacarena, the organization in charge of the park. If the trip is done on a bank holiday, we will not visit the park of Caño Cristales a second time. If this is the case, we will visit a different site). Lunch and return to La Macarena to take your flight.

Day 6
Bogota – Vallée de Cocora
Departure from Salento heading towards Cocora Valley. Together with your guide, discover the valley and its famous wax palm trees. You will then reach the “bosque de Niebla” (fog forest), a fascinating ecosystem in which you’ll be able to observe some of the region’s birds, and if lucky, animals such as Andean tapirs or spectacled bears. Head back to Salento for lunch.

Day 7
On the way to the Finca Romelia
Private transport will take you from Salento to the hotel Finca La Romelia.

Day 8
Exploring the Finca's gardens
This morning we visit the orchid and bonsai nurseries with our guide, and walk along the small paths of the Romelia Finca to observe the birds. The finca is home to no less than 130 different species. Binoculars in hand, let’s stretch our ears, open our eyes to observe many species and learn a little more about their way of life and their habitat.
Then José, the owner of the place, is a world-renowned orchid collector. The house and greenhouses in his garden contain over 800 different varieties of all sizes and colours. José accompanies us on this walk and is happy to teach us a little more about his magnificent plants.

Day 9
From Manizales to Tayrona Park

Day 10
Tayrona park
You start with a hike in the tropical jungle from Cañaveral. Then, you’ll visit the exotic beaches of Arrecifes and stop at La Piscina, which is ideal for swimming and snorkeling (not included). Continue to reach Cabo San Juan del Guia (2h-2h30 hike from the park entrance), a wonderful, white sandy bay, surrounded by huge volcanic rocks. On the way, your guide will show you the local fauna and flora, followed by lunch (not included) on the beach. Head back to the park entrance along the same path (2h-2h30 hike), and bus ride back to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 11
Trek Cerro Kennedy
We depart at dawn for Minca, a village nestled in the heart of the Sierra Nevada. After a brief immersion in its authentic atmosphere, we continue by 4×4 through spectacular landscapes and visit an organic coffee plantation to discover its secrets. We then head to Finca Santa Elena, where we enjoy a typical lunch in an exceptional natural setting and admire a magnificent sunset over the mountains and the Caribbean Sea, before having dinner and spending the night at the farm.

Day 12
Cerro Kennedy Viewpoint
We rise at dawn to admire the sunrise over the snow-capped peaks of Pico Colón and Pico Bolívar, a cup of organic Sierra Nevada coffee in hand. After a traditional breakfast, we begin the ascent of Cerro Kennedy along private trails, offering spectacular panoramas of the mountains, crystal-clear streams, and rich endemic birdlife. At the summit, at 3,100 meters above sea level, the view over the Sierra Nevada is simply unforgettable. We then return to the finca for lunch, enjoy free time in the afternoon, and head back to Santa Marta at the end of the day.

Day 13
Minca – Casas viejas
Departure from Santa Marta by 4×4 toward Minca for an immersive experience in the heart of the Sierra Nevada. Visit to an organic coffee farm with century-old facilities, followed by an approximately 20-minute walk to the natural pools of Pozo Azul for a refreshing swim surrounded by nature. Return to Minca for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, time to relax at the Marinka waterfall, stroll through the village, and observe hummingbirds from the balconies. The day ends with a spectacular view over Santa Marta from the Minca viewpoint, before returning by 4×4 and to your hotel in Minca at the end of the day.

Day 14
Birdwatching
We set off at sunrise this morning for a walk perfectly suited to birdwatching. Starting from Minca at 650 meters above sea level, we gradually ascend to 900 meters, stopping at the best viewpoints for observing birds along the way. Our guide ensures we spot as many species as possible. We may observe more than 20 species, including toucans and hummingbirds!

Day 15
End of the trip
Private transport will take you from Casas Viejas to Santa Marta airport.
