The Paramillo of Quindío is a mountain inside the Nevados National Park that offers spectacular panoramic views from the summit (4,750m). Formerly a glacier which, over time, shed its icy exterior, this ecosystem between the Tolima, Santa Isabel and Ruiz volcanoes lauds over the park’s main attractions. This mountain is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the park, due to its unique geomorphology and its splendid colourful sands, making this a veritable paradise for mountain trek lovers. In just 3 days you will be able to enjoy all this mountain has to offer in the midst of several tropical Andean ecosystems.

Day by day
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Salento – Cocora Valley and the cloud forest
7am: We will fuel up with a filling breakfast in Salento and then catch our private traditional vehicle (Willy’s Jeep) to the Cocora Valley. After an informative talk, we will start our adventure at the bottom of the Cardenas River. We will climb to the highest point of the valley to enjoy a lunch en route, with a spectacular view of the whole canyon. We will reach the La Argentina farm, where we will spend the night sharing family traditions and immersing ourselves in the way of life of the mountain people, while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee and a few laughs.
Day 2
Los nevados park – Paramillo del Quindio
7am. After having a delicious farmer’s breakfast, we will set off towards the abandoned Buenos Aires house. From there we will walk along the middle line of the valley until we reach the beautiful and awe-inspiring wetlands of Quindío (option 1) or, depending on the group and weather conditions, we can trek up to 4,700m (option 2) and reach the highest point for today’s hike. We will then head down to the La Primavera farm, at an altitude of 3,600m, where we will rest and spend the night.
Day 3
Los nevados park – Descent in the paramo
7am: Today we will embark on our descent to Cocora Valley, taking a different route to the ascent, along the canyon of the Quindío River, bursting with a stunning richness of flora and fauna. For those in need of an energy kick, we will take a break at the Estrella de Agua (Water Star) farm, at an altitude of 3,200m, to enjoy a traditional agua de panela (sugar cane drink), before continuing our downwards trek.
The rest of the day will take us through the Acaime Nature Reserve and the Casa de los Colibries (house of hummingbirds), where you will be able to get up close to these very special and fascinating bird. After lunch, we will continue our trek to Cocora, where a private transport will be waiting to take us to Salento.
