Villavicencio overview

Villavicencio, considered “The Gateway to the Plains”, is the capital of the department of Meta. The city is located at an altitude of 647 metres in the eastern cordillera.

The green spaces are beautiful, and the area is also known for its nightlife and asaderos – restaurants serving grilled meat, the speciality of which is mamona (beef).

The Llanera culture is similar to that of the cowboys and has a strong impact on the region.

Historically, the town was the main market for livestock activities in the region. Today, Villavicencio is a good starting point for visiting other towns in the country, such as Caño Cristales.
