Manizales overview

Manizales is the capital of the department of Caldas. It was founded in 1849 and is also known as the city of the Open Doors. The city is located in the Golden Triangle, close to three major cities in Colombia (Bogota, Medellin and Cali).

This city is located in the coffee region of the country and is surrounded by mountains. It is the gateway to the Nevados and has three nature reserves, including the Yarumos, the Blanco River Reserve and the Recinto del Pensamiento.

The most attractive places are the Plaza de Bolivar, the Government Palace, the Manizales Cathedral, the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Torre al Cielo, a spectacular viewpoint over the old village of Salamina and the village of Neira. It is also possible to go hiking in the Nevados National Park.

Among the most important events in the city are the Manizales Fair, the International Bullfighting Season and the International Coffee Kingdom.
