Day 1

Welcome to Colombia

Arrival at the airport of Bogota, the Andean capital, and transport to your hotel.

Day 2

Walking tour Bogota

Let’s discover Bogotá today in the manner of the “rolos” (nickname of the inhabitants of Bogotá). The walking tour of the capital takes us to the most authentic and historical places of the city.
La Candelaria, the historic centre, is a charming place with its brightly coloured houses, carved wooden balconies and flowery patios. On the programme: the Bolivar square, the Chorro square with its artists as well as its colonial houses.

Day 3

Local market and Egypto district

Departure from our hotel to the fruit and vegetable market of Paloquemao. This is a typical Colombia that we discover while walking around this retail market which is one of the most important in the country.
We will then leave for a walking tour off the beaten track in the Egipto district of Bogota, one of the most dangerous areas of the city as recently as 3 years ago. During two hours we will discover the past and the transformation process of this neighbourhood, guided by a former member of the neighbourhood’s gang. The inhabitants have decided to leave behind their criminal past to promote and tell the story of their neighbourhood.

Day 4

Bogota – Pereira- Manizales- Finca La Romelia

Private transfer from your hotel to Bogota airport (25mn). Upon arrival in Pereira, a private transport will take you to Finca Romelia (1h15)

Day 5

Finca Romelia

Stroll along the small paths of the finca Romelia to observe the birds. The finca is home to no less than 130 different species. With binoculars in hand, let’s open our ears and eyes wide to observe a good number of species and learn a little more about their way of life and habitat.
We will visit the gardens of the Finca. José, the owner of the premises is a world-renowned orchid collector. The house and the greenhouses in his garden are home to more than 800 different varieties of all sizes and colours. José accompanies us on this walk and is happy to tell us a little more about these beautiful plants.

Day 6

Visit of a coffee finca

The village of Salamina is located at the heart of a region traditionally dedicated to the production of coffee. Depart by a car head towards Buenos Aires, a place with many coffee farms. You will visit the facilities of one of them, where you will receive information about the entire coffee-making process, from picking the beans to tasting the final product!

Day 7

Wax palm trees

The mountains surrounding the village of Salamina are home to one of nature’s curiosities, the wax palm tree. You will leave Salamina by car and head towards the Samaria Valley, located at more than 3000 meters. A beautiful walk at the heart of these Andean landscapes will allow you to discover the wax palm tree. It can reach 70 meters in height and is one of Colombia’s symbols! Have lunch and then head back to Salamina.

Day 8

Salamina – Jerico

Immersed in a typical village of Antioquia, we discover its remarkably preserved architecture, especially the religious aspect of Jericó, starting with the Cathedral of Our Lady of Las Mercedes; we meet the strong characters of its history with the house-museum of “Saint Laura Montoya”. Let us take a walk along the paths of the Botanical Garden before ending with a breathtaking view, from the “Morro El Salvador”, of the village on one side and the surrounding green landscapes on the other.

Day 9

Viewpoint of the Soledad – Las Nubes Natural Park

We walk through the coffee and exotic fruit plantations, on the way we can discover the oldest “fonda” (traditional Antioqueño bar) in the region which is over 100 years old! We will pass by the Quebradona Waterfall, with the possibility of swimming depending on the weather, to finally arrive at the Mirador de la Soledad, which offers an absolutely unique view. Lunch and return to the village by Jeep.
We will go to the entrance of the Natural Park “Las Nubes” and follow a path while we rise in altitude that will give you little by little an incredible view of the area. Arriving on the Las Nubes plateau, we will have many viewpoints to admire this fascinating scenery.

Day 10

Medellin, Comuna 13

25 years ago, this city was one of the most dangerous in the world. Today, the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ is one of the most innovative metropolises in the world. Learn more about this spectacular transformation while discovering the neighborhood more commonly known as Comuna 13 and its street art.

Day 11

Guatape and the piedra del peñol

La Piedra del Peñol is one of the most spectacular destinations in Medellin. The 740 steps of the staircase take us to the top of this almost 200-meter-high rock to enjoy breathtaking scenery of islands and green mountains within a large blue lake. Guatapé is a quiet little village, famous for its church and its colourful facades and the skirting boards on the walls of all its houses. Take a day trip to experience a picturesque journey, enjoy a typical Colombian lunch by the Guatapé reservoir, explore the lake by boat or take time to stroll around the town and relax.

Santa Fe of Antioquia

Departure in private transport to visit the villages of Santa Fe de Antioquia (national historic heritage site), Sopetran, and San Jeronimo. During the day, you will have the opportunity to discover one of the finest colonial villages of Antioquia and to walk around its pleasant streets. Back to Medellin in the afternoon.

Medellin – Santa Marta- Parc Tayrona

Day 14

Tungueka, Kogui village

Today we visit our “big brothers” and protectors of the environment, the Kogui Indigenous people. Transportation from your hotel to Rio Ancho where a 2-hour walk through the rainforest begins to reach the village of Tungueka. We visit the school and the village according to the people we meet on that day and discover the Kogui traditional way of life with for example the culture of the coca. Lunch by the river and swimming before taking the way back.

Day 15

Cerro Kennedy

We will leave Santa Marta in the morning, heading to Cerro Kennedy a « paradise hidden in the mountains ». After observing coffee plantations, wax palm-trees, giants pines and many waterfalls during a 3-hour trip in a private transport, reach Kennedy where we will take a charming trail that leads to the farm where we will spend the night. After a lunch made of organic products from the farm, visit the garden and learn more about the virtues of medicinal plants. Diner and overnight at the farm.

Day 16

Cordoba River

Waking up at dawn to the snowy peaks of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, rewarded by a beautiful sunrise and the melody of the birds. After breakfast, we walk to the Panku waterfall and its crystal clear waters. Then we continue to La Tagua, we are driven by private transport to Los Moros, from where we continue our walk to our next rural hostel. Lunch and rest. In the afternoon, accompanied by our guide, we discover two natural swimming pools with fresh and crystalline waters that the indigenous communities have made accessible to the public. Return to the hostel where we sleep in tents or hammocks, depending on our preference.

Day 17

Ciudad antigua

Discover the archaeological ruins of the Tayrona indigenous culture, which continues to live today through its descendants Koguis, Arhuacos, Wiwa, Kancuamos and Arsarios, who perpetuate the cultural and ancestral traditions. After breakfast, a 4-hour mountain path will take you to the vereda Siberia where Ciudad Antigua was built. Here, meet the Koguis families who live with Mother Nature according to the same way of life as pre-Hispanic civilizations. The indigenous community allows visitors to spend the night in their village in order to learn more about popular customs and beliefs, raising awareness about the importance of protecting and respecting natural resources for the lives o future generations.

Day 18

Ciudad antigua – Santa Marta

After relaxing in Ciudad Antigua, filled with good energy, nature and breathtaking landscapes, and with more knowledge about the incredible Tayrona culture, it is time to return to Santa Marta after sharing a final breakfast.

Day 19

Tayrona – Cartagena

Let us follow in the footsteps of the famous pirates and let us be surprised by the “Pearl of the Caribbean”, a city with a mixed and exotic heritage whose cultural richness can only surprise us. This excursion along the streets of the beautiful city of Cartagena takes us back to colonial times, with its colourful houses and lively parks. It is therefore an opportunity, during this walk, to go back in time and relive some of the highlights of the history of the city, the second Spanish stronghold established on the South American continent. We discover the beauty of its monuments, squares, churches, walls, witness to times gone by but still defying the horizon… some pirate ghosts in sight.

Day 20

Palenque or the history of slavery

San Basilio of Palenque, 55 kilometers inland from Cartagena, was one of the first villages on the continent to achieve freedom and the birthplace of renowned boxers like Antonio Cervantes “Kid Pambelé.” During this visit, you will be immersed in local customs and discover life during the era of slavery. After enjoying a typical lunch, appreciate folk dances and learn about the Afro-Caribbean culture.
