Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Colombia
Reception at the airport in Bogota, the Andean capital, and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2
Bogota and its market with local flavours
Visit to the fruit and vegetable market of Paloquemao. It is a typical Colombia that we discover while walking through this retail market, which is one of the most important in the country. Most of the catering professionals buy their produce here, which is why it is constantly bustling. We will find all kinds of fruit and vegetables, from the most famous to the most original. Then we will discover the centre of Bogotá, the walking tour of the capital will take us to the most authentic places of the city, the historical centre of the city, a place full of charm with its brightly coloured houses, its carved wooden balconies and its flowery patios.
Day 3
Hato la Aurora Reserve
Transfer from your hotel to Bogota airport for your flight to Yopal. We then head by 4×4 to the Hato La Aurora reserve through the department of Casanare, in the heart of the Llanos. On arrival at the reserve, after settling into your room, we are welcomed with a delicious lunch typical of the region. Afterwards, we can walk around the lodge and observe the surrounding wildlife. In the evening we will have dinner and enjoy a sunset over the Llanos before resting at the Ecolodge.
Day 4
Safari or walk in the reserve
Jeep safari in the reserve to get to know the Hato la Aurora. We observe wildlife such as capybaras, white-tailed deer, alligators, cattle, wild horses, a large number of birds such as herons, plovers, owls, ibises and a variety of other countless species that inhabit these lands. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. If the sun has already set, meet the nocturnal fauna and, depending on the weather, observe the stars. Dinner at the hotel and if we still have strength left, we enjoy an explanation and demonstration of the llanera harp, poems, traditional folk songs and listen to the legend of the duck, the llorona and the fireball.
Day 5
Hato La Aurora Reserve
For this day, we can choose one of the following two options:
1. Horseback riding in the reserve where we discover many species of birds or howler monkeys that live in these forests.
2. A boat trip in the reserve to admire the beauty of the landscape around us. We can fish on the river and enjoy the sunset at the end of the day.
Day 6
Search for the anaconda
Go in search of the anaconda, this mysterious animal with many legends. You will learn a lot about this aquatic snake with an impressive jaw capable of hiding in the water by breathing with its nostrils positioned outside. However, anacondas are more of a predator to jaguars, caimans and other anacondas than to humans, whom they fear. Dinner and overnight at the ecolodge.
Day 7
Yopal -Bogota
Breakfast and then departure depends on our urgency. If we have some time, we can walk around the hotel, have lunch, pack our bags and enjoy the landscape and animals again.
Transfer to Yopal by jeep and flight back to Bogota.
Note: The order of the activities may vary and will be confirmed to you once we are there. This plan can be carried out all year round, note that there is less risk of rain between November and April.
Day 8
Bogota – San Jose del Guaviare
Let’s fly to an unusual destination, off the beaten tourist track, a promise of an exceptional discovery that takes us back in time. Let’s discover an extraordinary natural and cultural heritage! Today, let’s walk along a river on a sedimentary rock bed, crossing and avoiding the cracks and let’s be amazed by the power and the persistence of water to break and modulate the rock until forming these wells.
Day 9
Porte d´Orion – Caño Sabana
Departure to discover the emblematic rock formations dating from the Cretaceous period: visit the La Nevera Cave, walk through extraordinary rock vegetation, marvel at the crystal clear waters of the Tranquilandia Waterfall. Finally, we will discover the transparent waters of the magnificent Caño Sabana, from which the splendid colours of its aquatic plants emerge. Lunch during the excursion.
Day 10
Cerro azul
Let’s go and meet mysterious ancestral indigenous manifestations (more than 10 thousand years old!) and let us be transported into another dimension trying to interpret and decipher the hidden secrets of the rocky wall works… Lunch during the activity. Dinner at the hotel. In the evening, visit an indigenous resguardo near the urban centre to attend an ethnic and cultural demonstration, experiencing gastronomy, handicrafts and indigenous dances.
Day 11
Lagune Damas del nare – Bogota
Today, we sail to the Damas del Nare Lagoon, a magical place surrounded by Amazonian nature, from which we can admire freshwater dolphins at any time of the day, as well as swim with them in their natural environment. Lunch during the excursion. Return to the hotel to organize our luggage for our flight back to Bogota and on to new adventures!
