Day 1

Welcome to Colombia

Arrival at the airport of Bogota, the Andean capital, and transport to your hotel.

Day 2

Culinary experience and bicycle tour

After breakfast, we leave for the picturesque market of Paloquemao. Here we will discover the most representative products of Colombian gastronomy, and also buy the ingredients for our lunch! We then head to Bolivar Square and the restaurant of the Escuela Taller foundation, where we receive a cooking class with our chefs and the students of the school.
In the afternoon, we discover the centre of Bogotá in an original and atypical way. The Bicycle Tour takes us to the most authentic places in the city. On Sundays, cycling is part of the life of everyone in the capital.

Day 3

La Macarena – Caño cristales

Arrival at the village of La Macarena. First, you will attend a talk about environmental practices to apply to the site of Caño Cristales. Settle into your hotel and have lunch in La Macarena before leaving the village for a 20-minute boat trip on the Guayabero river. Enjoy the landscape and local flora and fauna (birds, turtles, and other animals of the region). Then, you will do a little walk to discover specific sites such as Cristalitos or others. Return to La Macarena around 3:30 p.m. and have the rest of the afternoon free.

Day 4

Caño cristales

Breakfast and early departure to the Caño Cristales park. Transportation by motorboat on the Guayabero river and by land, from the disembarkation point to the area of Caño Cristales. Start the ecological hike selected for you by the Natural Park or Coormacarena, the organization in charge of the park. Lunch in Caño Cristales before going back to the village of La Macarena. Then, you will enjoy an integration evening including a show, folkloric music and dance, and local cuisine.

Day 5

Caño cristales

The itinerary may be modified according to flight schedules. Breakfast and early departure to the Caño Cristales park. Transportation by motorboat on the Guayabero river and by land, from the disembarkation point to the area of Caño Cristales. Start of the ecological hike selected for you by the Natural Park or Coormacarena, the organization in charge of the park. If the trip is done on a bank holiday, we will not visit the park of Caño Cristales a second time. If this is the case, we will visit a different site). Lunch and return to La Macarena to take your flight.

Day 6

Bogota – Vallée de Cocora

Departure from Salento heading towards Cocora Valley. Together with your guide, discover the valley and its famous wax palm trees. You will then reach the “bosque de Niebla” (fog forest), a fascinating ecosystem in which you’ll be able to observe some of the region’s birds, and if lucky, animals such as Andean tapirs or spectacled bears. Head back to Salento for lunch.

Day 8

Exploring the Finca’s gardens

This morning we visit the orchid and bonsai nurseries with our guide, and walk along the small paths of the Romelia Finca to observe the birds. The finca is home to no less than 130 different species. Binoculars in hand, let’s stretch our ears, open our eyes to observe many species and learn a little more about their way of life and their habitat.
Then José, the owner of the place, is a world-renowned orchid collector. The house and greenhouses in his garden contain over 800 different varieties of all sizes and colours. José accompanies us on this walk and is happy to teach us a little more about his magnificent plants.

Day 9

From Manizales to Tayrona Park

Day 10

Tayrona park

You start with a hike in the tropical jungle from Cañaveral. Then, you’ll visit the exotic beaches of Arrecifes and stop at La Piscina, which is ideal for swimming and snorkeling (not included). Continue to reach Cabo San Juan del Guia (2h-2h30 hike from the park entrance), a wonderful, white sandy bay, surrounded by huge volcanic rocks. On the way, your guide will show you the local fauna and flora, followed by lunch (not included) on the beach. Head back to the park entrance along the same path (2h-2h30 hike), and bus ride back to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 11

Old City Plan

In the morning, a private 4X4 will drive you from Santa Marta to the picturesque village of Ciénaga. On the road, observe banana and palm crops, typical of the region. After 2 more hours until El Congo, the path is to be continued by foot to Ciudad Antigua. Once there, installation and lunch. After a break, discover the place with your local guide, learning its history and local myths as we walk among the terraces, testimonies of Tayrona architecture, which served as places for housing, specialized work or for religious ceremonies, all intercommunicated by paths and stairs of different dimensions. During the evening, a fire camp is a perfect opportunity to keep learning about the beliefs, lives and popular knowledge of the Tayronas, their cultural inheritance and their perception of Mother Nature. Dinner and overnight in traditional cabins.

Day 12

City Plan

After breakfast, admire the luxuriant nature walking through the characteristic tropical rainforest of the Sierra Nevada, during a 2-hour walk. This path leads to a beautiful waterfall falling from the high mountain in which you will be free to take a dip. For those who don’t feel like it, explore this wonderful environment, contemplate the endemic species of flora or just relax in this peaceful atmosphere. Lunch in Ciudad Perdida before heading back to Santa Marta.

Day 13

Minca- Mundo Nuevo

By 4×4 we start our journey to the natural pool of Pozo Azul, where we take a refreshing break and have a swim. Then we take the vehicle back to Mundo Nuevo where we walk to the coffee and cocoa finca of La Candelaria (tour of your choice). This place has been run by the family for several generations, and they pass on their passion for the local treasure. Return to Mundo Nuevo for lunch. Vegetarian menu concocted with products grown on site and from organic agriculture. Full of flavour guaranteed! Early afternoon permaculture tour on the grounds of Mundo Nuevo. The place offers a magical view over Minca and the city of Santa Marta. Return by 4×4 to the centre of the village and transfer to our hotel.

Day 14

Birdwatching

You will experience the nature and diversity of Minca and its surroundings during a birdwatching excursion. You will leave from Minca early in the morning from a starting altitude of 650mts and go up to 900mts. On the way, you will stop at beautiful points along the way to observe a wide variety of birds. Your guide will make sure you can discover the greatest number of species you can during this excursion. You will be able to see more than 20 species, including the Toucan and the Hummingbird.

Day 15

End of the trip

Private transport will take you from Mundo Nuevo to Santa Marta airport.
