Mocoa overview

Mocoa is the capital of the department of Putumayo and the gateway to the Amazon. It is recommended to arrive in Mocoa from San Agustin, because the road is very beautiful. In only three hours you will go from the coolness of the Huila to the heat of the Amazon. The landscape also changes: the lush vegetation of the Amazonas and an amazing wildlife await you.

You can also swim in waterfalls and natural pools. The area belongs to the indigenous community of Kafán and Inga and has only recently been opened to ecotourism.

Sibundoy overview

Sibundoy also belongs to the department of Putumayo. The village at 3630 metres above sea level is only 80 kilometres from Mocoa. From an ethnobotanical point of view, Sibundoy is one of the richest regions in the world, with the highest number of medicinal plants.

In 1941, Richard Evans Schultes discovered one of the largest concentrations of hallucinogenic plants, with over 1600 hallucinogenic trees. Schultes worked closely with healers and recorded several flowers with which the locals treated infections and fever, medicinal roots to kill parasites, tonics to cure nerve problems, and pharmaceutical practices to prevent pain in childbirth.
