Ibagué overview

Ibague is located in the department of Tolima, close to the Nevado del Tolima on the central mountain range. The city is also known as the musical capital of Colombia. The city was founded in 1550 and is considered one of the oldest cities in America.

The territory has a very diverse flora and fauna thanks to its climate, and the region has two nevados (snow-capped mountains): the Nevado del Tolima and the Parque Nacional Natural de los Nevados. These two nevados are essential for the city of Ibague, as they supply it with water.

Although there is no season in the region, a wide range of temperatures can be observed, from 0°C to 30°C.

Economically, Ibague is considered the main cultural, commercial and industrial epicentre of Tolima department.

The city has a good atmosphere thanks to the music, the colourful walls and the variety of monuments that refer to music. The most important conservatory in the country is also located here.

The Colombian Folklore Festival is celebrated in Ibague during the whole month of June. It highlights the traditional and cultural values that characterise the region.

Typical dishes of the region are lechona, tamal and Achiras among others.
