Florencia overview
The municipality of Florencia is located in the northwestern part of the department of Caquetá between the Andean and Amazonian regions. The city covers an area of 2,292 km².
Until its conquest it was occupied by numerous indigenous groups, some of which are still present in the region. Among the most represented indigenous groups are: the Coreguajes, the Andakíes and the Huitotos.
The territory is composed of foothills, slopes and plains. As a result, there is a great deal of vegetation and species such as armadillos, small rodents and different species of monkeys, as well as a wide variety of birds.
The Sinaí viewpoint is the perfect place to enjoy Florencia and the nature reserve in the Orteguaza River Valleys.
The economy of the municipality is based on tourism (hotels), restaurants, and commercial enterprises. Livestock and agriculture are important (banana plantations, yuca, Amazonian coffee, flowers and exotic fruits).
