DAY 2: BOGOTA
 |
In the morning, discover the city center of Bogotá. The walking tour of the capital will lead you to the most authentic places. The colonial center, la Candelaria, is a charming place with its brightly colored houses, balconies of carved wood and flowery patios. You will visit the Plaza de Bolivar and the Chorro de Quevedo Plaza with its artists and colonial houses.
Lunch in a traditional restaurant in la Candelaria.
In the afternoon you will visit the Gold Museum where you can find Latin America’s largest collection of pre-Columbian gold objects, numbering over 30000, as well as beautiful emeralds.
You will also visit the Botero Museum which has a large collection of this famous Colombian artist’s works as well as other masterpieces by some of the greatest impressionist and modernist artists (entrance to the museum included). Free time in the evening.

DAY 3: BOGOTA – VILLA DE LEYVA

Breakfast in the hotel and departure to the North and the region of Boyaca. Arrival in Villa de Leyva, a small colonial town in a valley.
Get settled in the hotel.
Walking tour of the city center to learn about its history, architectural treasure and coffee places and to see the large Plaza Mayor.
This paved square of 14000m², considered the largest in the country, is surrounded by beautiful old colonial buildings and a charming parish church. In the middle of this square stands a small fountain that provided water to the village for a long time.
Then you will visit the Mill of Mesopotamia, a vestige of the Spanish colonization, and the convent of Carmelitas descalzas: a community of nuns has been living there since its creation in 1645. They are fully dedicated to manual work and prayer.
Free time in the evening.

DAY 4: VILLA DE LEYVA - RAQUIRA

In the morning, visit the principal sites of interest around Villa de Leyva in private transportation: El Fossil, the archeological park and the Santo Ecce Homo Monastery.
In the afternoon, departure from Villa de Leyva to Ráquira, a village where you will have some free time to do some shopping. It is also possible to visit a ceramic workshop in Ráquira (according to availability).

DAY 5: VILLA DE LEYVA – BARICHARA

After breakfast, you will be transported to Barichara, a small colonial village known as the most beautiful village in Colombia.
Afternoon: an historic and cultural tour of Barichara: visit the Santa Barbara churches, the viewpoint over the Suarez Canyon, the Central Park, and the Park of sculptures. Also visit the workshops of some local artists and craftspeople (painting, sculpture, paper, tobacco…)

DAY 6: BARICHARA – GIRON

In the morning, you will hike to the village of Guane, on the royal road of the Spanish colonization.
Visit the archeological museum and return to Barichara.
In the afternoon, you will go to Giron. Arrival in the late afternoon and time to settle into your hotel. Free time in the evening.

DAY 7: GIRON – MOMPOX

Located on the shore of the Magdalena river to the south of Cartagena, Mompós is one of the most beautiful jewels of the colonial period. Declared cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO, this city founded in 1530 by Spanish colonists has preserved a beautiful colonial architecture and charm, with its houses and churches alongside the majestic Magdalena River.
Departure in the early afternoon to Mompox. Arrival scheduled in the afternoon. Time to settle into your hotel and free time during the rest of the day to discover the city.

DAY 8: MOMPOX

Historical tour of the city in the morning: you will visit parks, churches, cultural museums, old colonial houses of prestigious bourgeois families, and visit a traditional craft workshop. In the afternoon, a boat tour on the Magdalena River. Then you will visit Pijiño swamp where you will be able to swim and observe the fauna and flora.
Back to Mompox in the late afternoon. Arrival at your hotel next to the river.

DAY 9: MOMPOX – CARTAGENA

Departure from Mompox in the morning, following the Magdalena River to Cartagena. You will pass by the craft village of San Jacinto, known for its history and traditions. It also is a leader in Hammock making, famous for the color and solidity of the fabric.
Arrival in Cartagena in the afternoon, free time in the evening.

DAY 10: CARTAGENA

In the morning, a walking tour of the colonial area of San Diego and Santo Domingo, passing by the Plaza de los Coches, plaza de la Aduana, parque Bolivar, the Gold Museum, plaza de Santa Teresa, plaza Santo Domingo, the city walls and las Bóvedas.
City tour with a guide: you will go by private transportation to La Popa Convent; the San Felipe Castle, the principal work of Spanish military engineering during the colonial period; and the popular area of Getsemaní.

DAY 11: CARTAGENA

Free day in Cartagena in order to visit your favorite sites again, do some shopping, buy some gifts and souvenirs, and maybe go spend the last day on one of the Rosario Islands.
